Religion, policy, economics, infrastructure, all these are to a large extent stop-gap solutions till technology and philosophy take over. Just as we pity Pheidippides of Athens, who in order to deliver a few messages, had to run 280 km in 2 days and then died of exhaustion, 50 years hence people will pity their predecessors who had to use arbitrary and cumbersome ways to solve problems.
