A child who loved lotuses asked his father, ‘Why are there so few of them?’. He replied ‘You see, there are a lot of buds. As these buds grow, the surrounding mud tries to soil them and foil them and spoil them. Few of the buds fight and become lotuses, the rest give in and become mud itself. So though you will find many a bud, there are only few lotuses in the mud’.
